KUCHING - August 25, 2019 – Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) for possible collaborations to develop digital technology pertaining to “Multi-Agency Collaboration for Building Resilient Communities” (MOBILISE).

UTHM’s Kanzu Research group will assist the state to provide expertise & collaboration on research and development in respect to digital technology which will create a collaborative environment that enables various agencies (responsible for managing localized disaster) and communities to act collectively to reduce the impact of disasters.



“From this collaboration with UTHM’s Kanzu Research group, we hope the State will have a comprehensive digitally-enhanced multi-agency collaboration platform and digital approach for modelling community and infrastructure vulnerability that will expedite and coordinate the State’s response in managing disaster,” said Dr. Zaidi Razak, General Manager of Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA). 


The MoU was signed by Dr. Zaidi Razak, General Manager of SMA, Professor Ts. Dr. Wahid Bin Razzaly, Vice Chancellor of UTHM and Sr. Dr. Noralfishah Sulaiman from KANZU Research: Resilient Built Environment, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, during the MOBILISE 4.0 Conference held in Kuching on August 22, 2019 (Thursday).


The one day workshop discussed the Malaysian approach for implementing the Sendai Framework by assessing good examples, current strengths and weaknesses of multi-agency collaboration models in Sarawak. The workshop highlighted the state-of-the-art in technical platforms for disaster risk reduction and response by applying MOBILISE approach for creating a digital platform for DRR in Sarawak.
