PUSA, SARAWAK, 7 FEBRUARY 2020 – Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) today continues its second digital inclusivity programme ‘Rindok Digital’@ Pusa. Rindok Digital, in conjunction with the Sarawakku Sayang (“Jaga Sarawak, Intu Sarawak”) campaign, focuses on reaching out to the rural communities and empowering them through digital talks and activities held from 7-9 February 2020.

 

Rindok Digital @ Pusa is one of the digital inclusivity programmes of the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Modernization of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Sarawak (MANRED) and other government agencies.

 

The Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg graced the event, accompanied by Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah anak Embas, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, together with Dr. Zaidi bin Razak, General Manager of SMA. 

 

The launching of SMA Rindok Digital @ Pusa today by the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak showed the determination of the State Government to ensure that the notion of Digital Economy is embraced by Sarawakians.

 

“Sarawak Digital Economy is an effort spearheaded by the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak and I believe, today’s Rindok Digital will show and educate the community in Pusa how digital technology can bring them to the forefront of the state’s economy” according to Dr. Zaidi bin Razak, General Manager of SMA. 

 

At Rindok Digital @ Pusa, a forum themed “What’s in Pusa” will see the participation of local YBs and community leaders.  They will share and discuss the history, attractions, products, food and cultures of the community of Pusa. The outcome will be used to enhance existing programmes and develop new ones so as to improve the socio-economic well-being of the community. In addition, CENTEXS Commercial Services S/B and Sara X Sdn Bhd will share with youths how to participate in the digital economy.

 

The three- (3) day event includes exhibitions by MANRED, Land and Survey, Sarawak Women Welfare Department, Sarawak Pay, Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE), Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), Pustaka PANDei, Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS), Wataniah Sarawak and Positive Mind Sdn. Bhd. on Smart Farming. Other programs that will be organised are Digital Economy Talks, Bakat Kamek Concert and Stand-Up Comedy, Colouring Contest, eSports Tournament, Randau Pertanian and Local Fruit eating campaign by MANRED and Bergendang Competition.

 

Pusa is a district in the Betong Division with a population of 14,921. The riverine town of the same name is located 167-km from Kuching and 144-km from Sibu. It’s main economic activities are fishing, agriculture and commerce. Pusa is known for her high quality nipah palm sugar and lemantak (traditional snacks made from sago flour).

 

Under the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018-2025 (Digital Inclusivity: Action 47), the State Government through SMA aims to establish a digital-ready community through developing digital skills and inclusive digital participation.
