Miri, 15 February 2020: Sarawak Multimedia Authority actively engages the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research Sarawak (MESTR) as well as Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Sarawak (JPNS) in its effort to promote STEM throughout the state. This is in line with Strategic Action 35 under the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy (2018-2022), to strengthen current STEM and ICT education in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

This was reflected during the launch of SMA-TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) last Saturday where The Young Makers performed a sketch as part of the opening launch of the DIH. It featured Junior Innovate National Runner-up, Voon Sen Yu as the storyteller as he introduces his rocket launcher project and the 5 other young makers who demonstrated their creativity and innovation with STEM. The first Young Makers; Junior Innovates Abdul Aleem Muhammad Nazri and Ashton Ryan Maiyor introduced their Robot arm capable of playing Basketball. The second Junior Innovate, Immanuel Kunding Anak Kinchang showed off his fishing claw machine. The third Junior Innovates Andrea Ong Li Wei made a Musical Box, the result of her love to preserve her culture and heritage with technology and innovation. Next was the Summer Paradise group represented by Noorathirah Izzati Binti Musa, Noorul Azzalea Binti Mohd Azie and Ivan Chan Xuan. They showcased their “Blue Batch Garden'' project, a solution that ensures no misuse of disabled parking space. And finally, maker friends, Rachel Kok introduced her recycled robot to the public.

“The participation of the Young Makers in the Launching Ceremony exemplified the results of the robust talent and community development program undertaken by SMA and its various partners especially MESTR and JPNS. Other than that, the contribution of education-based Startups such as Chumbaka and All Aboard has made the process to educate children easier because more sectors of the community can participate.” said Dr Zaidi bin Razak, General Manager SMA.
