SOCIAL DISTANCING SET UP AT DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB

 

KUCHING, 3 JULY 2020 – Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) is offering free of charge (FoC) access to University Students to use its Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) located in various parts of Sarawak. This initiative enables needful students to have reliable and fast internet access and a conducive work space to do their assignments and tasks during the Recovery Movement Control Order period (RMCO).

 

The DIH can be accessed by students starting from 6th July 2020 until further notice. Access to the DIH is on a first come first served basis so as to ensure compliance to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). University students are encouraged to contact the operator of the respective DIH listed below to book their slot.

The DIH is part of the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018 - 2022 spearheaded by Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. The DIH provides co - working and event spaces for Startups and Entrepreneurs to work, conduct trainings or develop their ideas.

 

Today, there are five (5) DIH across Sarawak two (2) in Kuching, one (1) in Sarikei, one (1) in Bintulu and one (1) in Miri while, in other divisions, they are in development stage and are expected to be fully operational by end of second quarter in 2021. The facilities provided by these DIHs include fast internet, conducive work environment and a stocked pantry amongst others.

 

“Graduates are the future of Sarawak, hence it is imperative that they have access to proper facilities to help them study. Since its inception, SMA has developed the Sarawak Digital Village Ecosystem (SDVE) which encompasses an ecosystem with robust training programs and a network of partners across Sarawak such as TEGAS, SMG, and iCube. Together with their valued support, we hope that this CSR initiative will benefit University students in this challenging time.” said Dr. Zaidi Razak, General Manager of SMA.
