SMA WiFi SALURAN |
Two hundred targeted communities in all districts of rural Sarawak can now conveniently connect to the internet. Users are able to get download speed of up to 25 mbps and 5 mbps upload speed with this satellite broadband channel, using Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs).
To use the service, one can either test the 30-min free trial service or enjoy uninterrupted browsing experience by signing up with Sarawak ID. The on boarding experience begins by activating the smart phone’s Wi-Fi setting to connect to the ‘WiFi_Saluran’ network. Users will, then, be seamlessly directed to the WS mobile app dashboard. As such, there is no app download step to take. There is no login requirement for the trial service and WS is free to use with Sarawak ID until further notice.
The WIFI SALURAN initiative is an interim measure by the state government to expeditiously bridge the digital divide while the SMART First 300 towers, for mobile broadband service, are being commissioned for service. Therefore, once the respective towers come on air, the VSAT will be re-positioned to serve communities with interim connectivity needs.
