RURAL MIRI SMART HERITAGE WORKSHOP HOSTED BY SARAWAK MULTIMEDIA AUTHORITY

 

 

 

MIRI, 3rd February 2020: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) has embarked and expanded one of the state digital economy initiatives – to preserve Sarawak’s culture and heritage - through the first Ulu Baram Smart Heritage Strategic Plan & Action Plan 2020-2025’ workshop themed “Rural Miri Smart Heritage”.

 

A total of five holistic thrusts was established to support the preservation and conservation, with the aid of technology, of both intangible and tangible heritage of the Ulu Baram community. The findings will assist the Ulu Baram community in developing strategic action plans that are both systematic and inclusive.

 

 

The two-day workshop was officiated by the Deputy Speaker DUN Sarawak, YB Dato Gerawat Gala, N.78 Mulu with the attendance of the diligent YBs of the respective areas namely; YB Tuan Anyi Ngau, and YB Tuan Dennis Ngau.

 

Sarawak Multimedia Authority’s Deputy Chief Scientist and Chief Advisor for Digital Economy, Prof. Ir. Dr. Al-Khalid Bin Haji Othman shared the learning experiences and success stories of the Digital Economy and Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) action plans. 

 

 “The State Government has planned a lot of initiatives to develop Sarawak, therefore the local community attitude must change to embrace the developments,” said YB Dato Gerawat Gala, adding that the change in attitude will help a lot in community developments progress in Sarawak.

 

“I’m supporting this initiative to set up this new platform as I see it as one that will enhance both the development plans for Kedaya Telang Usan and San area,” said Temenggong Joseph Ngau Lian.

 

A total of thirty-three (33) local champions participated in the 2-day workshop. Participants include Miri and Baram councillors, community leaders and entrepreneurs from the Miri and Baram region. The workshop was organised Rural Miri Smart Heritage Working Committee chaired by Councillor Simpson Njock Lenjau.
