Sarawak Pavilion at MWC 2025 in Barcelona Marks Milestone in Digital Transformation

KUCHING (March 4): The Sarawak Pavilion was launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain on Monday, marking another significant milestone in Sarawak’s journey towards becoming a regional leader in digital transformation, smart technologies, and sustainable development

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), this Pavilion serves as a gateway for global investors, technology leaders, and businesses to explore the vast opportunities that Sarawak has to offer.

In his officiating speech, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Sarawak Pavilion underscores the state’s commitment to building a thriving digital economy, expanding renewable energy initiatives, and fostering industry collaborations to drive economic growth.

“In line with our Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, Sarawak is accelerating its digital transformation, leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create new business opportunities and improve the well-being of our communities.

“The Sarawak Pavilion at MWC Barcelona showcases our readiness to collaborate, innovate, and grow with global partners,” he said.

Uggah encouraged businesses, investors, and tech leaders to connect with the state and explore its opportunities, thus becoming part of Sarawak’s journey towards a sustainable and technology-driven future.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the Sarawak delegation would expand engagements this year through business matching sessions, networking opportunities, and high-level discussions to strengthen partnerships with global tech leaders, investors, and industry experts.

According to him, these initiatives would enable the state to leverage global expertise, explore innovative solutions, and cultivate impactful collaborations that drive sustainable digital and economic growth.

“Through these engagements, Sarawak aims to tap into global expertise, explore cutting-edge solutions, and build meaningful collaborations that would drive long-term digital and economic growth for the state,” he said.

Among those present at the launch were Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, federal Ministry of Communications secretary general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication permanent secretary Datu Jafri Lias and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng.

Meanwhile, SMA in a press release said the Sarawak Pavilion at MWC Barcelona 2025 is more than just an exhibition as it serves as a collaboration hub for forging strategic partnerships, driving investment, and fostering innovation.

Taking place from March 3 to 6, MWC Barcelona 2025 is set to attract over 120,000 attendees from 205 countries and territories, including top executives, policymakers, and technology pioneers.

“With more than 2,700 exhibitors and 1,100 speakers, the event remains a focal point for groundbreaking innovations shaping the future of digital transformation

“Throughout the event, the Sarawak delegation will engage with global technology leaders, investors, and major industry players to explore opportunities in smart cities, AI, fintech, renewable energy, and digital trade,” it said.
